How I got 20,000 followers on X in less than 12 months
On September 16th, 2023, Justin Welsh shared a post mentioning that it's possible to earn 100K by publishing content on X! I made a public promise to post once a day for a year to test this idea!

I didn't have high expectations and anticipated a maximum of 5K followers by the end of the year. Currently, I have 22,000+ followers and dozens of clients who use my products and services to grow their startups!
So, here's the exact blueprint and mind map I used to make this happen!
I immediately purchased Justin's course, because I believe the easiest way to avoid trial and error is by learning from people who have already done it! Content OS was a game changer as I learned how to be efficient with idea research, validation, and publishing. I created a content bank & matrix that save me hours by eliminating the need to constantly think about the next post!
I mastered the steps, but my posts weren't getting impressions! That's when I found an outlier creator, Dagobert Renouf, and his course “Dominate Twitter,” which taught me to focus on memes to gain attention quickly before publishing educational content. I used Reddit for inspiration and Imgflip to design memes, which helped me gain my first 2,000 followers. Here's the exact process of how to find insights and create Memes to kickstart your presence on X!
1. Go to free tool “Founderpal user persona generator”
2. Fill out “Your business and target audience” sections.
3. In 10 seconds you have your ICP with their pains, problems, goals and benefits.
4. Access reddit .com/r/memes/ and check what’s trending.
5. Don’t just copy-paste, but find rare and interesting templates that can be used for your niche
6. Design memes with your own twist using Imgflip.
7. The purpose of memes is to poke fun at the problems or challenges your target audience faces.
8. Once you get a decent attention with meme marketing, start posting educational content.
9. Redirect profile visitors to your lead magnet and include the link in your X bio.
I went through lots of iterations and it took me 8 months to reach 10,000 followers!
Here are 32 things I wish I knew to get there earlier:
Checklist of Metrics:
1. X blue (2x boost)
2. Likes (30x boost)
3. Comments (50x boost)
4. Reposts (20x boost)
5. Links (limited reach)
6. Visual content (2x boost)
7. Misinformation (limited reach)
8. Getting unfollows (limited reach)
Algorithm Training:
9. Turn on notifications for big creators (they should have at least 1M+ followers: Elon Musk, Historic Vids, Fascinating, Wonder of Science, Sahil Bloom, Sam Altman, Tim Cook, Satya Nadella, etc.)
10. Allocate 20 minutes per day for 3 weeks and comment on their posts (the sooner after they publish, the better)
11. This way algorithm is trained to associate your content with high-profile accounts and making your posts more viral every time you share them.
12. Find an account that is 3 steps ahead of you in your niche, follow 100 people from their following list and comment on their posts.
13. Twitter’s recommendation algorithm depends on users’ behavioural history.
14. Once you get 1000 followers, unfollow anyone who doesn't follow you.
15. Unfollow people who don't post in your niche.
16. Follow accounts with a low following and a higher number of followers.
Engaging with others:
17. Create a list of your followers who engage with you.
18. Create a list of accounts of your size that post content daily.
19. Create a list of big accounts and engage with them.
20. Engage less with new accounts.
Content:
21. If you are just getting started, capitalize on meme marketing.
22. Go to reddit .com/r/memes/ save ideas and create fresh content using Imgflip.
23. Once you gain 500-1000 followers, start sharing educational content for your audience.

Maximizing the Reach:

28. Use slippery slide (keep your readers' attention and successfully slide them down to the end)

30. Don’t forget to include a few keywords in your copy
31. Write around 1 topic you are passionate about.
32. Be authentic and share your perspective, for instance, I share business growth hacks for startup founders!
